Sakina Shakil Gröppmaier is a doctoral student at the Amerika-Institut, where she teaches undergraduate courses in North American history. Her dissertation project examines energy and crisis in twenty-first century North America, using the so-called third oil crisis as a framework. Her master’s thesis explored the connection between crises and the development of energy security policy in the United States and was nominated by the Amerika-Institut Alumni Association for best master’s thesis in 2018. She has also has worked as an English language specialist for various international companies in Munich as well as for the Bavarian Academy of Science and Humanities. Prior to that, she was a journalist for the political journal The International. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in English and History.
