Bärbel Harju earned her doctoral degree in American Cultural History in 2011 at the LMU. During study and research trips to the United States of America she got acquainted with the work of writing centers, a vital part of academic life in the U.S.
At LMU Bärbel Harju not only offered classes in U.S. American culture but also workshops and courses on academic writing. She also offers workshops about academic writing on schools, universities of applied sciences, and universities. Her focus of interest lies on the integration of writing in teaching, writing strategies and routines, academic writing in English, as well as writing groups. She was the head of the Writing Center from its foundation in 2015 to summer 2019.
Bärbel Harju is a member of the Society for Writing Didactics and Writing Research and completed the course on "Literacy Management" by Dr. Gerd Bräuer.
